This document represents an update of the British Society of Haematology guideline published in 2014 due to advances in understanding the biology and therapy of the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).1 The objective of these guidelines is to provide healthcare professionals with clear guidance on the diagnosis and evaluation of prognosis of adult patients with MDS. A separate BSH guideline covers the Management of Adult MDS which is published alongside this guideline. A separate good practice paper detailing the management of patients with chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) will follow and is not considered in these guidelines.
