Last Review Date: 31 January 2023

This guidance has been jointly produced by the Safety and Quality Committee of the British Society of Interventional Radiology in conjunction with the Haemostasis and Thrombosis task force of the British Society for Haematology. It is intended to be a quick guide for teams in the radiology department. For a detailed discussion of the evidence please refer to other full BSH guidance available on this website.

The HEMSTOP screening questionnaire is recommended as a pre-procedural screening tool in place of universal clotting screens for all patients. The second half of the document is designed to guide the temporary cessation and restarting of antithrombotic medication for an interventional radiology procedure.  This is a brief summary of a complex area and is intended to be used as a general guide for radiology teams.
