This September, during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we have been shining a light on the multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) involved in blood cancer care, highlighting the enormous challenges faced by those seeking diagnosis and treatment, as well as the incredible advances in research and patient care in recent years.

Blood cancer care relies on a wide range of healthcare professionals working together to support patients at every stage of their journey. Throughout the month, we have been sharing spotlight stories from members of the MDT across our social media channels, showcasing the expertise, compassion and commitment that underpin high-quality care.

Our spotlight series has featured a range of professionals whose stories have highlighted the crucial role that teamwork plays in delivering personalised, patient-centred care.

One of the themes that emerged strongly from our spotlights was the impact of innovation in blood cancer treatment. Emma, a Specialist Haematology Physiotherapist and Anthony Nolan Specialist Physiotherapist, reflected on the rapid progress being made in the field:

"The advances within the CAR-T therapy space are particularly exciting. These therapies are transforming treatment options for a number of people. As a Physiotherapist working with people undergoing intensive blood cancer treatments, it is inspiring to see how rapidly the field is progressing. It highlights the importance of the whole multidisciplinary team working together to support patients before, during and after these innovative treatments, helping them recover and return to the activities that matter most to them."

Similarly, Senior Charge Nurse Tracy McCarry highlighted the impact of emerging treatments, which are creating more personalised treatment options and improving outcomes for patients living with blood cancer.

Our Clinical Scientist spotlight also emphasised the importance of effective multidisciplinary working, describing how haematologists, transfusion specialists, nurses, pharmacists, apheresis teams and laboratory scientists collaborate to deliver complex treatments safely and effectively.

Throughout Blood Cancer Awareness Month, we have also been grateful for the support and advocacy of our charity partners, including Blood Cancer UK, Leukaemia Care, Leukaemia UK and Lymphoma Action, who have continued to raise awareness, share patient stories, support those affected by blood cancer and champion improvements in care, treatment and research.

Their work, alongside that of healthcare professionals, researchers and patients, helps to ensure that blood cancer remains firmly in the spotlight and that more people understand the realities of living with these conditions.
