This pilot fellowship grant supports BSH members who are trainees in countries without a local haematology training programme, enabling them to access context‑appropriate postgraduate haematology training in a nearby country or region.

Award Summary

Award

Two grants of up to £48,000 over three years:

  • Up to £15,000 per year (total £45,000, excluding inflation)

  • Up to £1,000 per year for travel (maximum £3,000)

Who can apply?

BSH members who are trainees in a country where there is no local training programme

Eligibility

Applicant must:

  • Meet the entry requirements of the training institution

  • Provide evidence of acceptance into the programme

  • Demonstrate commitment to haematology training and intention to return home after completion

  • Commit to completing training within the specified timeframe (e.g., three years)

Training institution must:

  • Commit to supporting completion of training within the agreed timeframe

Home institution must:

  • Commit to supporting the trainee on their return

  • Confirm that the fellowship training will be formally recognised and confers haematology specialist status in the home country

Grant recipients will:

  • Submit a grant report at the end of each training year

  • Exam fees
  • Travel costs of up to £1000 per year

Please note:

Membership applications for those resident outside of the UK are considered once a month by Governance Committee therefore please allow 6 weeks if submitting a membership application for approval and processing if joining BSH in order to apply for this grant.
