BSH attended the 21st Annual Sickle Cell & Thalassaemia Conference (ASCAT 2026) in London last week, which brought together clinicians, researchers, patients, advocates and policymakers from the UK and internationally. This year’s theme, “Building Care That Lasts: Sustainability in Haemoglobinopathy Care”, explored how advances in research and treatment can be translated into equitable, high-quality and sustainable care, with discussions spanning emerging therapies, workforce development, health inequalities, policy and access to treatment.
The conference provided a valuable opportunity to hear about the latest developments in haemoglobinopathy care, see the contribution of BSH members to this important area of practice, and facilitate connections with BSH for conference attendees. The discussions reinforced the importance of combining advances in treatment with investment in the workforce, service development and equitable access to care – priorities that are closely aligned with BSH’s work to support the haematology community.
